MBE for long‑serving Police Chaplain in Northumbria

We are pleased to share that the Revd Canon Glyn Evans, a long‑serving Police Chaplain with Northumbria Police, has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

The MBE recognises outstanding service and commitment across areas such as public service, community work, and volunteering. Glyn’s award reflects his longstanding contribution to the community, including his dedicated ministry alongside police officers and staff.

Glyn has served as a Police Chaplain for nearly 25 years. Although he stepped back from full‑time parish ministry two years ago — in his own words, because “it was not fun anymore” — he has continued his chaplaincy work with the police, as well as his role as Chaplain for the Deaf in the Diocese of Newcastle. He currently serves as Interim Lead Chaplain for Northumbria Police, offering steady support and helping sustain the chaplaincy’s presence.

He also played a part in establishing national Police Chaplaincy as a more structured and recognised body. Alongside this, he spent many years as a City Centre Chaplain in Newcastle, leading a large team and building relationships with businesses and organisations across the city.

Glyn has always believed deeply in the value of chaplaincy — not as something separate, but as part of the life of both community and church. This recognition reflects that quiet, consistent contribution over many years.

We offer our congratulations to Glyn on this award.
