For the position of
LEAD CHAPLAIN BOARD MEMBER

Derak.jpgDerek PAMMENT

Derek is married to Lynne and has two children. His daughter Claire lives and works in America and his son Richard lives and works in the Midlands. Following a very successful and productive career in the NHS, Derek has been involved in Police Chaplaincy for the last seven years, a role he describes as such an enormous privilege. Initially starting out as a volunteer chaplain, Derek progressed to deputy lead chaplain with the Staffordshire Force before moving to Doncaster to take up the role of lead chaplain with South Yorkshire Police.

Derek’s move to Doncaster involved a new role of half-time lead chaplain and associate priest across four Church of England Churches, one of which manages a large multibank. He describes the roles as complimentary with both enriching and informing each other.

When asked why the board and why now. Derek smiled and explained that the appointment of a new national chaplain, provided the opportunity for a new level of energy and renewed focus. Explaining his background in public service and to a lesser extent in consultancy he felt he had so much to offer based on years of board lever and trustee experience both in this country and overseas. He recognises the need for a relational approach to members as opposed to a transactional approach and felt that he could bring alive the vision and values of Police Chaplaincy UK as well as providing a level of expertise in strategic planning, governance, and marketing.

Derek is truly committed to the wellbeing and support of all officers, chaplains and staff throughout the force and is sensitive to the ever changing public and political perceptions of policing. He as a deep desire to see Multi Faith Chaplaincy embedded in every aspect of police life and to ensure chaplaincy is at the heart of policing by contributing to a new voice for policing. Derek is a strong team player, rarely flustered and with a truly pastoral heart. I believe he as much to offer the board.
