For the position of
LEAD CHAPLAIN BOARD MEMBER
Dudley MARTIN
In July 2010, Dudley Martin retired after completing 30 years uniformed service with West Yorkshire Police. During his career he worked in community policing roles in Huddersfield and Bradford districts before moving into roads policing (motorcycle and car) in Bradford and then Ops Support Divisions. Dudley was a Family Liaison Officer for 6 years whilst on motorway patrol. Dudley is married with two grown children and eight grandchildren.
In April 2012 he was appointed as a Volunteer Police Chaplain to West Yorkshire Police in Halifax District and in January 2016 to WYP Lead Chaplain. In January 2015 he was also appointed Club Chaplain to Huddersfield Town Football Club. He is a member of Huddersfield Christian Fellowship and active with the Christian Police Association having also fulfilled the role of Branch Leader for many years and Vice Chair of National Board of Trustees.
Dudley continues in the Lead Chaplain role having helped develop an amazing team from 7 to 28 volunteer chaplains representing varying faith and culture backgrounds. He commits to his work recognising the truth of Psalm 127:1 ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.’
Dudley offers his services to the PCUK Board of Trustees because he is passionate about the provision of chaplaincy services in support of officers and staff in these most challenging of times, understanding that we stand at a most significant moment in the history of chaplaincy to the police.
