Reasons for the above responses were sought. Responses were varied. The most
significant was that respondents preferred to seek this type of support from their own
pastor, family, or church community (20%).

On a positive note reasons for seeking support from a police chaplain included:
Support for Christian Police Association (CPA) matters. Advice if the chaplain had a
good knowledge of policing, the constabulary and wider spiritual issues. Support if
the chaplain were Christian. Some respondents considered the chaplains to be
helpful, approachable and supportive. Also the chaplains were also understood to be
